Pumpkin cookies have always been a favorite in our household, no matter the time of year. Add on some tasty cream cheese frosting dashed with a little cinnamon and they taste de-lish! Keep scrolling to find my delicious pumpkin cookie recipe. It won’t disappoint!
These cookies would be a great way to make up if you’re having a tough time getting along with your step-kids around the holidays. Read one of my experiences on that here.
Where to Start with these
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
First, cream the shortening and sugar together in a bowl. When that is done, add the pumpkin, eggs, and vanilla, and make sure to beat those ingredients together well.
In a separate bowl, stir together flour and the remaining ingredients: baking powder, cinnamon, baking soda, nutmeg, and ground allspice.
When this is complete, add this to the batter in the first bowl and mix all of the ingredients together well.
Preparing them for the Oven
Grease a cookie sheet and use a teaspoon to drop each cookie, making sure they are a couple inches apart. Bake each batch for 12 minutes.
While you’re waiting for your cookies to bake, this is a good time to make the frosting. Soften the cream cheese and butter in the microwave and combine it with powdered sugar, salt, and vanilla.
Putting it all Together
Let the cookies cool, and then you’re ready to spread the cream cheese frosting on top! You can do this gradually as you eat them and just save the frosting in a container in the fridge while you store the cookies in a container of your choice or you can choose to frost all of them after the cookies cool if you expect them to get eaten up quickly!

Pumpkin Cookies with Cream Cheese Frosting
- 1 cup shortening
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup pumpkin
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 2 cup flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp nutmeg
- ¼ tsp ground allspice
- ½ tsp salt
- 2 cup powdered sugar
- 5-6 oz. cream cheese
- 2 ½ -3 Tbsp. margarine
- 1 tsp vanilla
- PREHEAT oven to 350 degrees. CREAM shortening and sugar. ADD pumpkin, eggs and vanilla, BEAT well. In a separate bowl STIR together flour and remaining ingredients, then ADD to batter and mix well. DROP by rounded teaspoons on greased cookie sheet and BAKE at 350 for 12 minutes.
- FOR FROSTING:SOFTEN cream cheese and butter and COMBINE all ingredients adding the powdered sugar last. ADD more powdered sugar to desired thickness.
