HOW TO MAKE A FLAKY PIE CRUST

Pies are a staple this time of year, but this crust if great year-round. Pair this buttery crust with your favorite pie for a delicious treat. You can pair it with my recipe for The Perfect Pumpkin Pie.

PIE IN MY HOUSE

Pies go with holidays in my house. Cherry in the summer, Pumpkin in the fall, the possibilities are endless! And, my granddaughter has started asking to help! This easy recipe is great for spending time with your kids or grand-kids. It is a simple activity that they will remember forever! Pie crusts can be tricky but I have the perfect recipe for a buttery, flaky pie crust that everyone will enjoy.

PIE CRUST INGREDIENTS

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 ½ cups shortening
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vinegar
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup water

HOW TO MAKE A PIE CRUST

  1. Combine all ingredients together and mix well.
  2. Place dough between two sheets of wax paper.
  3. Roll out dough to 1/8 of an inch between the 2 sheets of wax paper.
  4. Peel top layer of wax paper off and place upside down in pie tin.
  5. Remove other piece of wax paper. Cut around the edge of pie tin and form the pie crust. You can add thin rolls of dough to around the edge as needed.
  6. Pinch around the edge of the pie or use a fork to press the edge to the tin.
  7. Poke the bottom of the crust with a fork and bake at 350° for 12 minutes.
  8. Remove pie crust from the oven and add any filling that needs to be baked into the crust.

Our favorite fillings are pecan, cherry, and pumpkin.

    ROLL out to 1/8 of an inch between 2 sheets of wax paper. PEEL top side off and place upside down in pie tin.
    CUT around the edge and form pie crust. You can add thin rolls of dough to around the edge as needed.
    PINCH around the edge of the pie or use a fork to press the edge to tin.
    POKE the bottom of the crust with a fork and BAKE at 350 degrees for 12 mins.
    REMOVE pie crust out and add any filling that needs to be baked into the crust. Our favorites are pecan, pumpkin and cherry.
